David, a handsome, ruddy-cheeked youth and the youngest son of Jesse, is brought before Saul, the king of Israel, having slain the giant Philistine warrior Goliath with only a stone and sling. (In an alternative version of the first meeting between David and Saul, the king, suffering from "an evil spirit", has the youthful David brought to him to play the lyre and soothe his mind). (1 Sam. 16:14-21).

Jonathan, the eldest son of Saul, is struck with love for David on their first meeting, "And it came to pass, when he [David] had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul." (1 Sam. 18:1). That same day, "Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul" (1 Sam. 18:3). Jonathan removes and offers David the rich garments he is wearing, and shares with him his worldly possessions: "And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle." (1 Sam. 18:4).

The people of Israel openly accept David and sing of his praises, so much so that it draws the jealousy of Saul (1 Sam. 18:5-9). Saul tries repeatedly to kill David, but is each time unsuccessful, and David's reputation only grows with each attempt (1 Sam. 18:24-25). To get rid of David, Saul decides to offer him a daughter in marriage, requesting a hundred enemy foreskins in lieu of a dowry - hoping David will be killed trying. David however returns with a trophy of two hundred foreskins and Saul has to fulfill his end of the bargain.

Learning of one of Saul's murder attempts, Jonathan warns David to hide because he "delighted much in David" (1 Sam. 19:1-2). David is forced to flee more of Saul's attempts to kill him (1 Sam. 19:1-20:1). In a moment when they find themselves alone together, David says to Jonathan, "Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes." (1 Sam. 20:3).
"Then said Jonathan unto David, 'Whatsoever thy soul desireth, I will even do it for thee' ... [and] Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, 'Let the LORD even require it at the hand of David's enemies.' And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved him: for he loved him as he loved his own soul” (1 Sam. 20:4,1 Sam. 20:16-17).

David agrees to hide, until Jonathan can confront his father and ascertain whether it is safe for David to stay (1 Sam. 20:18-22). Jonathan approaches his father to plead David's cause: "Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him, Thou son of the perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse [David] to thine own confusion, and unto the confusion of thy mother's nakedness" (1 Sam. 20:30).

Jonathan is so grieved that he does not eat for days (1 Sam. 20:34). He goes to David at his hiding place to tell him that it is unsafe for him and he must leave. "David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded. And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of the LORD, saying, The LORD be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed for ever. And he arose and departed: and Jonathan went into the city." (1 Sam. 20:41-42).

Saul continues to pursue David (1 Sam. 21-23:14); David and Jonathan renew their covenant together (1 Sam. 23:15-18); and eventually Saul and David reconcile (1 Sam. 24:16-22). When Jonathan is slain on Mt. Gilboa by the Philistines (1 Sam. 31:2), David laments his death saying, "I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, surpassing the love of women." (2 Sam. 1:26).

another website tickled my curiosity. it is bisexualitycounseling.com. the first thing that came to my mind was that the site aims to make a supposed bisexual unrealise his current sexual preference. it aims to make a client choose between the black and the white area. it is either one is straight or extremely gay. the gray zone is completely deleted.

but it is a different kind of psychotherapy. it is an in-depth psychotherapy for those who wish to explore and empower themselves while discovering, affirming, and honoring their unique sexual identity. psychotherapist gary thomas wareham, a self-confessed bisexual, claims that his central approach is one of understanding and compassion for the clients' unique experience, while still targeting areas of potential blockages which are impeding one's fulfillment. relationships are of major concern as well as sexual orientation and sexual identity issues. his counseling philosophy emphasizes personal growth and empowerment while living as authentically as possible. he sees himself and his program as a facilitator for a client's personal journey and self-discovery.

it is enlightening to know that support groups are developed to help people with unique sexual preference. such helpful systems enable society to take a better look at such gray areas and to consider equality at all times. i wonder if support groups are existing for us, straight people.

J. Michael Bailey is a professor of psychology at Northwestern University. His study on sexual arousal of men who identify as bisexual was reported in the science section of Tuesday's New York Times and picked up by other media outlets. The study, scheduled to be published in the journal Psychological Science , found that bisexual men were not aroused by erotic movies in a way that was different from primarily gay or primarily straight men.The article led some bloggers to wonder why the Times had not reported that Bailey is highly controversial among transgender people. In 2003 he published a book called The Man Who Would Be Queen: The Science and Psychology of Gender Bending and Transexualism. In his book, based on interviews with transgender women, Bailey presented the idea that some men become women because they are sexually aroused by the idea.Several transgender women denounced the book as libelous and "junk science." Some of the book's subjects filed five complaints with Northwestern, alleging that Bailey had written about them without their consent and in one case had sex with one of them. The Chronicle of Higher Education reported in December that Northwestern had concluded its investigation of the complaints, but the university would not say what action, if any, it took against Bailey. Bailey resigned as chairman of the department in October, but a Northwestern spokesman told the Chronicle his resignation had nothing to do with the investigation. He remains a professor at the university.Joan Roughgarden, a professor of biology at Stanford University and a transgender woman, has denounced the book. But others, including Harvard psychology professor Steven Pinker and openly gay researcher Simon LeVay, have praised it. I interviewed my bisexual friend and it was really an eye opener. I learned so many things about sexuality and bisexuality. It is about being comfortable with your sexuality and your being human.

Bisexual is a newly devised term. In the Philippines it is mostly used to refer to men who are not straight but acts straight. Homosexual, gay or effem are the terms used to refer to the effeminates. We can see that this is not the same as to the definition of westerners to the word bisexual, where it is mostly emotional in terms.

He further says that gays or effems do not like the bi's because curious straight men prefer bi's instead of effems. And bi's also do not like effems because they make the image of the third sex worse. And so the underworld feud goes on.

I’m sure you’ve heard the term “Bisexuality” and maybe you already know something about it. It might be curiosity that made it so popular but amazingly, the issue still managed to get discreet and mysterious in its own way. Even bisexual people do not understand everything about bisexuality; it’s just that they felt or realized something that made them think that they belong. How does it feel to be bisexual in the first place? It might be as complicated or simple as one person can ever think, it really depends on how you view it. Just looking at the factors, threats, and challenges that a bisexual should encounter and consider justifies it all. “Further looking inside your culture might give us more confusion and yield questions. A person should be open-minded enough, intelligent, selfless, and mature to enter your world.”

Let’s focus on men bisexuality, as women in the same category, prefer and mostly considered themselves as lesbians. It all starts when you feel like you’re getting attracted to the same sex, it might be physical or emotional, but even so, you’re simply attracted to the same sex. In the process, you discover that you still get the same feeling for the opposite sex. You might experience less attraction for her, but still, you’re attracted. Simple signs like that confuse your gender and make you question your own sexual preference. Deal with it for a long time, just as long as you end up with a conclusion. We should take note that these commonly happens during the gender confusion stage, an event that happen before or after might be of different case. Actually, the hardest part of it is the process of knowing if you’re bisexual or gay, or straight. You can be bisexual at this time, and be gay later, or be straight afterwards, it depends. “You are bisexual. You may have suffered an extreme torture of making a decision and acknowledging yourself as a ‘bisexual’. But at least you did. Gone are the nights of endless cries, of wishes and regrets, of confusion and reality, of truth and denial. Yes, you’re a bi, but you’re still the same. You just became something much beautiful.”

Discrimination is such a word. Bis suffer the same fate with homos. “It’s never easy to be like you. Especially in a world full of discrimination, even your own family might reject you. Most of the people around you can’t recognize the difference between a ‘bi’ and a ‘homo’. Or even so, the world can’t stop putting such big deal in ‘sexual preferences’. Reality equals inequity.”

Bis didn’t choose to be like one. How come they suffer from inequality while being true to one’s self? “It’s not your fault. You did not commit a murder-you’re not a killer. You just chose to be real. Yes there will always be people who would never ever understand the world you chose to live, but remember that there are also people, who believes in you, and recognizes the real you. You’re just like everyone else, so believe in yourself, and don’t be afraid to acknowledge the truth.”

Bis, just like everyone else, fall in love. One cannot simply account bisexuality with just sex. There are emotions involve, they are human beings in the first place. Just fall in love. It might be with a guy today, with a girl tomorrow – it doesn’t matter. No one can stop a heart from falling in love. “Just like everyone else, you’re gifted with the power of love, even much stronger than others. Don’t be afraid to fall in love.”

There’s nothing really striking with bis. It’s just that they live a much thrilling life compared to the heterosexuals and homosexuals. And just like homos, they have the so-called ability to recognize if a person is like one of them. Just treat bi people like everyone else; perhaps put yourself in their shoes to simply experience what they feel.

There are simply no rules in the world of bisexuality. It’s all about being real.

Thoughts on Bisexuality

Bisexuality is the human sexual orientation which refers to the aesthetic, romantic, or sexual desire for people of either gender or of either sex. For some writers, the term is parallel to homosexuality and heterosexuality, while for others the term expresses a blend of the two.

Bisexuality. A not so primitive word. In fact, it is commonly associated with homosexuality though it is obvious that it is a different thing. That is why it is hard to define bisexuality and it is harder to identify bisexuals.

Tons of studies have been made for different sexual orientations but I’ve noticed that there are only few who touched the topics about bisexuality. And because of this, I believed that like me, there are people out there who, if not clueless, know little about bisexuality. Is it because bisexuals are few in numbers and they don’t make such impact like their counterparts? I think no. I think many of those who we thought are homosexuals and heterosexuals are actually bisexuals. Even those who think that they are straight can not be spared from the possibility that they are bisexuals. Chances are, they are not aware that they are bisexuals because; they don’t know how to tell if they are bisexuals. How could they do that if they believed that homosexuality and heterosexuality are the only sexual orientations or sexual preferences that exist?

I together with my group mates decided to tackle this not so sensitive but very interesting issue. As we start to do our research, we are hopeful that as a conclusion of this study, we’ll be able to give answers that will help clarify everything about bisexuality..

During my younger years, I wasn’t aware of the other third sex aside from lesbians and homosexuals. I didn’t know anything about bisexuality, their behaviors, until I met a friend in college. I’ve had no resources, I haven’t read about it even in books or magazines before, my mentors didn’t even mention anything about it. I, myself, had become curious regarding this; I feel lucky enough to have someone that I can always ask about being a bi. I’ve become interested about their personality. Maybe, if I’ve had no friend that is bi, I wouldn’t understand why there were some people who choose to be like that. Even worse, I won’t have knowledge that it really exists; I may categorize them as being lesbians or gays.

You won’t be able to tell right away if the person is bisexual, because their behavior is not that obvious, their personality, aura…you wouldn’t know it, unless you have a background (having exposed to that sexuality—having friends like that, or being bi yourself). I always thought that it just existed during this millennium; I had no idea that some of the ancient people were also bisexuals. In ancient Greece, males during their young adulthood went through a bisexual stage characterized by pederastic relationships. In Japan, during 19th Century, they already do have an extensive art and literature associated with it. It was common among Roman and Chinese emperors, the shoguns of Japan and others.

Alfred Kinsey have indicated that majority of the people appear to be somewhat bisexuals, although one sex is prepared. He wrote books in relation to this topic: Sexual Behavior in the Human Male (1943) and Sexual Behavior in the Human Female (1953). I believe that sometimes, we are attracted even to the same sex. I am attracted to other girls sometimes; I appreciate their beauty or talent. Nonetheless, I do not classify myself as being a bi.

Bisexuals deserve respect from people. It doesn’t make them less of a person. They are just normal like everyone, regardless of the people’s prejudice. It is right to express what you want in life and to show the world who you really are. I even look up to them; they are brave enough to show their real character.

it could have been that i refuse to depart from my secure world that it was just this year when i have known that bisexual individuals really do live lives. i have heard about them. i have read about them. i see them on television. but i never get to meet one for real. when i finally did, the curiosity never stopped.

it is true. bisexuality or the mere thought of it entails curiosity. how could an individual develop attraction to either gender? has he known all along that he is bisexual all his life? how do i detect whether a person is bisexual or not? like i said -- truly fascinating.

the world wide web defines bisexuality as a sexual or romantic attraction or behavior directed towards some members of more than one sex. a bisexual person is someone who has the said attraction or behavior or is someone who feels potentially able to have such attraction.

i know. who wants to stick to rigid definitions? what is bisexuality in the real world? how are bisexuals in real life? so many questions, just the right blogsite.

bisexuality is a thing that is yet to be adequately explained. it is an indication of man's growth as a person, as a functioning being. it is a suggestion of open-mindedness and inner freedom. it is a curious thing tempting our minds to push through and seek answers.

my world has just identified this bisexuality thing. and i intend to find out more. i maybe a full-blown straight gal. but i choose to open my mind and let reality sink in -- that a guy may like another guy or just go back to his girlfriend at any given time.

Bisexuality. A term most people do not wish to talk about or even know. Behind the very society are a group of men who call themselves the discreet. Who are they really? Why are they being discriminated and not being given due respect?

For me, I have known bisexuals and I can say proudly, that they are some of the best people I know. They have lives to live, great stories to tell and are humans to be loved and respected.

No they are not the same as homosexuals. They certainly do not wish to be females and very much proud of their own privates. They are just like normal men, only they fall in love with the same sex and have romantic relationship with them.

Techinically speaking, bisexuals are those who are versatile with their partners, be it female or male.

We should just be happy for them and let them live their lives. It's their choice, it's their life. We should just be supportive of their decision. I mean, as long as they do not hurt anyone, what's the problem right?
